Lochgilphead church

One of five church buildings within the Parish Of Dalriada Mid Argyll – Church of Scotland

Prominently situated at the top of the town’s Argyll Street, looking south to Loch Gilp.

This building designed by architect, John Honeyman, was built in 1885 and replaced an earlier Parliamentary Church which had occupied the site from 1828. The three light gabled front is asymmetrically partnered on the west by a clock and belfry steeple over an arched entrance door. Four bay nave with the two south bays opening east and west into a transept. Stained glass in the three sanctuary lancets is of the highest quality by Henry Holiday of London 1903-4. Depicted in these windows are scenes from Christ’s Nativity.

The dedication commemorates the family of David Crow who built much of the town’s Colchester Square.
