Achahoish Church

One of five church buildings within the Parish Of Dalriada Mid Argyll – Church of Scotland

Situated on the North Bank of Achahoish Burn, this building was constructed in 1775 for the Parish of South Knapdale.  Another church building was also constructed at Inverneill on the shores of Loch Fyne shortly afterwards.  The combined total cost was £277 9s 5d (£277.47).

As the populations of Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig grew new parishes were formed and Inverneill Church did not survive.

Achahoish Church is one of the oldest surviving churches in Argyll.  Originally built as a plain rectangle, a battlemented belfry tower was added to the NE gable of the building in the mid 19th century.

The church contains a stone font basin said to come from nearby St Columba’s Cave
